Although the book of 2 Samuel bears the name of one of the great prophets of Israel, he is not alive in any of its pages. He is only there by inference. 🙂 Samuel is the one who annointed David to be king of Israel and 2 Samuel is the account of David’s reign. Even though Samuel annointed David, he died before he could see him assume the throne. Samuel annointed 2 kings of Israel- Saul, the people’s choice- and David, God’s choice. You will see soaring moments for David in this book and days of such defeat and failure you will ache for him. You may even find yourself, along with me, willing him with all your heart to choose differently (even though history has already been written). Sometimes reality escapes me as you can see. 🙂 But in his last words, David shows he still knows the blessing of God over him, “The oracle of David son of Jesse, the oracle of the man exalted by the Most High, the man anointed by the God of Jacob, Israel’s singer of songs. . .” 2 Samuel 23:1. Oh the miracle of God’s undeserved blessing!
